Do you hear the people sing? by samanthamuscaria Do you hear the people sing? by samanthamuscaria
Les Miserables
Book by Victor Hugo
Musical by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg
Lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer

Do you hear the people sing
Lost in the valley of the night?
It is the music of a people
Who are climbing to the light.

For the wretched of the earth
There is a flame that never dies.
Even the darkest night will end
And the sun will rise.

This is beautiful! I am a die-hard Les Miserables fan and I get flutters in my heart every time I see art, hear a song, or come across a reference to it at all.

Fantastic! I love the lyrics of that part, they're so touching. I think the fact that the play's just finishing also makes them touching, but, I consider they have that deep meaning I always end keeping with me about Les Mis.

I am excited because of the film, too, even if Russell Crowe won't ever be my picked Javert, I guess... I just hope he nails Stars. I'd be happy if he is able to. Maybe, if the film is successful enough, we can get some revival. First and last was during year 2000 OTL

Thanks! They're mine, as well <3 That's why I chose them. I thought they would make an excellent print-ish thing. I might actually make a print of this and just hang it up. Such lovely verses :D

Very striking. Love the font choice and the soft gradient through the colors of the flag. And I love that you picked the finale reprise verses, they are my favorite.

I'm not 100% sure yet how I'm feeling about the film, but I'm way excited that my (semi)local theater is riding its coattails and bringing a production with the new staging into town in January.

The reprise is my favorite as well

I have an idea for a piece out of "Stars", but I think I'm going to let it wait a while. I could do these all day. Especially for musicals. I have a probem XD

I'm glad you like it! :tighthug:

I'm not 100% sure how I feel about the film myself. It's directed by the director of The King's Speech though, and I really enjoyed that so I have faith. I definitely have higher hopes for this than I ever did for RENT. My god, what a hot mess that movie ended up XD That's what you get for hiring the director of Harry Potter to do a muscial. Maybe next, they should have Chris Columbus do A Very Potter Musical. Might work better :-p

I've heard most of the cast sing though, and I have a good feeling about it. I'm most interested to see Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter as The Thenardiers. I cannot tell you the amount of hysterical cackling that happened when I heard that casting choice. I greatly anticipate it.

I'm glad they didn't let Nick Jonas do the movie though. He is literally the worst part of the 25th Anniversary. I LOVED Ramin Karimloo as Enjolras, and Lea Salonga as Fantine was spectacular. I loved the 10th Anniversary cast, so seeing some people come back (Jenny Galloway as Mme. Thenardier!!) was really awesome.

We'll have to see, I guess :)

I think I'm just trying not to get my hopes up too high. I really love Hugh Jackman and think he's absurdly talented, and having a good Valjean is at least 50% of the battle I think. I saw his one man show in Toronto and his stage presence and energy and voice were just all absolutely amazing. I'm thrilled he's finally doing a movie musical. That said, it's not a role I would have thought of for him, so I have to kinda shake my "but Valjean is supposed to be ugly!" issues from having read the novel. Similarly, I'm really jarred by not having a blonde Fantine. I'm sure I'll get over the appearance stuff like that if all the singing and acting is good though!

I still have yet to see the 25th anniversary. Part of it is nerves... I don't want it to not be good! I keep hearing pretty good things, though, so I'll check it out soon.

I'll definitely be excited to see more Les Mis text art from you. :) Stars is a fantastic choice, too! So many pretty lyrics to choose from.
